An Easter Egger & Olive Egger chicken is not a true breed, but terms used to describe a certain type of mutt chicken. These are a great addition for anyone wanting rainbow eggs. There is no rhyme or reason to their feather coloring because they can be a mix of just about any breed.
Easter Eggers are the offspring of a chicken with the blue egg laying gene bred to any other breed of chicken. The chicks can grow up to lay any color of eggs from blue, green, pink, and more. Once a chicken lays an egg, the color it laid will be the only color it will lay for life, though the shade may change. It won't lay a brown egg one day and a blue egg the next.

Olive Eggers are a specific type of Easter Egger, created by crossing a chicken with the blue egg gene to a chicken with the dark brown egg gene (like a Marans), producing offspring that lay a darker olive green colored eggs. The more times you breed back to the dark brown laying gene, the offspring should lay darker and darker shades of green, but you still may get a few dark brown laying mixes. Sometimes you may even end up with a chicken that lays gray eggs.
